Professor Choong-Ki Kim, an emeritus professor of our faculty, was selected as one of the twelve “Korea Science and Technology Contributors 2019”

Emeritus professor Choong-Ki Kim has been newly nominated as a science and technology contributor this year, being recognized for his work in establishing advanced semiconductor research in Korea and raising the first and second-generation leaders who led the development of related technologies.

The “Korea Science and Technology Contributor” institution, established by the ministry of science and ICT since 2017, selects science and technology professionals who have made outstanding achievements as “science and technology contributors”. This system was established to encourage scientific engineers to have honor and pride. It is also intended to build a society where science and technology engineers are respected.

The Ministry of Science and ICT selected the first 32 contributors in 2017, and 16 more contributors have been selected last year.

In this year, 12 new contributors have been selected. In the field of science, three contributors have been selected including Sang-Soo Lee, former president of KAIST. Four contributors have been selected from the field of biology, including the late Tae-Wan Ko, former director of the Korea Food Research Institute. In the field of engineering, four contributors have been selected including the emeritus professor of our faculty, Choong-Ki Kim including Sang-Soo Lee, former president of KAIST. Finally, the late Si-Jung Kim, emeritus professor at Korea University, was selected in the field of convergence.
