Student Admission Types
Graduate students are divided according to the type of scholarship selected at the time of admission. The types of scholarship: Government-sponsored scholarship, KAIST scholarship, and General Corporate-funded scholarship.
Lab. & Advisor Assignments
In order to apply to the Ph.D. (or Master’s/Ph.D. combined) program, you are required to have an advisor in the EE department at the time of application. Please contact your potential advisor (by exchanging emails, etc.) and determine your advisor before applying to our program.
For Master’s degree program, you are not required to have an advisor at the time of application, but we highly recommend you to determine your advisor before application. You can still find (or even change) your advisor on a “Happy Marriage” basis even after admission, but statistics shows that a few students have difficulty in finding advisors during a semester.
Integrated Master’s & Ph.D. Program for Current KAIST Students
Current KAIST Master’s students may apply for the Integrated Master’s & Ph.D. Program after completing their first semester in the Master’s program. Applicants must obtain a recommendation from their current academic advisor or approval from the Head of the School.
This program is available only to students who are currently enrolled in a Master’s program at KAIST. Prospective students who have not yet been admitted to KAIST should refer to the Master’s-Ph.D. Integrated Program for Incoming Graduate Students below.
Integrated Master’s & Ph.D. Program for Incoming Graduate Students
The Integrated Master’s & Ph.D. Program allows incoming graduate students to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. studies in a continuous program. The program begins at the Master’s level and generally requires five years of study. Students may proceed to the Ph.D. level without completing a separate Master’s thesis.
Please Note:
1) Applicants to the Integrated Master’s & Ph.D. Program may be admitted to the Master’s Program instead, based on the decision of the department’s admissions committee.
2) Students who withdraw from the integrated program may be awarded a Master’s degree if they have fulfilled all requirements for the Master’s degree.
Special Military Services
Students in Ph.D. program or in integrated Master’s & Ph.D. program who have not done the military service may start their duty as a research agent for three years after the course works are done (at least 1 year after the admission).
