개요:

Now we are facing the 4th industrial revolution, the major areas of which are Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Autonomous Robots, Big data & Cloud computing, etc. In order to keep pace with this trend, semiconductor design technology needs a new evolution to resolve newly faced challenges especially such as neural network chip implementation, extreme low voltage operation, and process variation tolerant design.

 

In this seminar, these challenges and related recent research activities will be addressed according to the following agenda.

1.    Neural network and neural network chip implementation

2.    Near threshold computing(NTC): benefit and issues, research for resolving NTC barriers

3.    Variability aware design: source of timing variations, resolving methods

연사악력:

Dr. Kyu Myung Choi is a visiting professor at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seoul National University since March 2016. Before that, he had worked at Samsung Electronics for 31 years. He had worked as an engineer for the semiconductor design related development work from 1985 to 2004. From 2005, he was the header of the Design Technology team as a vice president, where he developed the design methodologies, PDKs, semiconductor cell libraries for the semiconductor design. From 2012, he was the header of the Infrastructure Design Centre as a senior vice president, where he was in charge of the development of design technologies, mixed-signal, and high-speed interface IPs. From 2014, he was the header of the LSI Product and Technology as a senior vice president, where he was in charge of the semiconductor IC product development such as CMOS Image Sensors, Display Driver ICs, Security ICs, and Power Management ICs.

He received B.S. and M.S. in Electronic Engineering from the Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, in 1983, 1985. He received Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, in 1995. He was the author and co-author of more than 30 IEEE conference and journal papers, and done IEEE activities very actively during last 15 years. Especially he served as ISOCC technical chair and general vice chair in 2007 and 2008, respectively and held keynote speeches at ISOCC in 2008 and 2011.
