KAIST Youngest Ph.D. Recipient Seulki Lee

On this past February 24th, the graduation ceremony was held in the KAIST Sports Complex. Many were keeping an eye out for one particular person and the subject of such attention was Dr. Seulki Lee. Enrolled into the undergraduate program of KAIST with the class of ’04, Dr. Lee graduated early and went on to receive the title of ‘Youngest Ph.D. Recipient’ along with an impressive track record in research. “All I did was enjoy my time researching – I didn’t think I would receive this title,’ she commented. Dr. Lee left to work for Europe’s largest electronics research center, IMEC, as a researcher this March, and we at the EE Newsletter had an interview with her.

Q. Please introduce yourself.

A. Hello. My name is Seulki Lee. I enrolled into KAIST in 2004 and graduated with my Ph.D. this past February. I majored in semiconductor chip and system design under the guidance of Prof. Hoi-Jun Yoo, and am currently conducting research into wearable healthcare systems at IMEC, located in Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

Q. Congratulations on receiving the ‘Youngest Ph.D. Recipient’ title. How do you feel?

A. I didn’t know I was the youngest recipient until around the time I graduated. I am happy that I received the title, but I am more proud of the fact that I graduated with good results. I think it is more important to graduate with a good standing in your field than graduating quickly.
