Jerald Yoo, who had graduated from KAIST with B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, was appointed as an assistant professor at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). MIST is established by the international collaboration of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Abu Dhabi government. It is a graduate level, research-oriented university which is focused on alternative energy and sustainability.
Q. Please tell us briefly about the professorship at MIST.
A. MIST is established in Abu Dhabi as part of the Technology and Development Program (TDP) at the MIT. The MIT TDP works to build research and academic capacity in the emerging world through assistance and scholarly guidance. For the first year, I will be giving lectures and conducting projects at the MIT, and then will move to MIST for further research.
Q. How did you get offered the professorship right after graduation?
A. I had been presenting my researches at such conferences as ISSCC, and I guess a number of MIT professors kept a close attention to me ever since I was a first-year Ph.D. student. I was invited to speak at the “Workshop on Next Generation Medical Electronic System” which was held at MIT in 2008 and 2009, and Professor Anantha P. Chandrakasan offered me the professorship at MIST.
