The electrical engineering department has newly opened a new course called “My EE” in the 2017 Spring semester.

Curriculum Introduction

Course Title: Electrical Engineering Special Lecture 1 – “My life and career in EE” (code: EE485)

Eligibility: Electrical Engineering Sophomores (2nd-year undergraduate students)

Credit: 1 credit (major elective)

Schedule: once in every two weeks starting the first week (Wednesdays of odd weeks)

 

Major Contents

  • Acquisition of basic knowledge and things EE students must know for better college lives
  • Individual career path design in a fast changing electrical engineering environment
  • Interactive seminar with panels

Academic Reinstatement for the 2017 Spring Semester

Announcement for Young-Han Kim Global Leader Scholarship

This is an announcement for 2017 ‘Young-Han Kim Global Leader Scholarship’.

 

= Below =

1. Number of Offer: 8 students

o Undergraduate: 4 students, MS: 2 students, PhD: 2 students

2. Amount of Scholarship

o 4,000,000 KRW/Year (2,000,000 KRW/Semester)

o Duration : 2 years for undergraduate and PhD students, 1 year for MS students

(If a student in the integrated MS/PhD course started PhD program, the scholarship will not be awarded even if the scholarship was awarded less than a year during the MS program)

 

3. Scholarship Continuation Requirements: The selected students need to meet the following academic achievement requirements.

o Undergraduate: 12 credits/GPA 3.7 or above in the preceding semester

o MS/PhD: 9 credits/GPA 3.7 or above in the preceding semester

※ In case that there is no GPA in the preceding semester, the cumulative GPA will be considered and there should no fail (‘U’) in the preceding semester.

※ If there are academic changes (leave of absence, dropout, expulsion, early graduation) or any other academic disciplinary actions during the scholarship period, the scholarship will not be continued.

 

4. Eligibility

o Undergraduate: Students who entered in 2015, have earned at least 45 credits by 2016 Spring semester, have achieved a GPA of at least 3.9, and have been recommended by an academic advisor.

o MS/PhD: 1st year students (National Scholarship) who have achieved a GPA of at least 3.9 in 2016 Spring semester, and have been recommended by an academic advisor and a department chair. (1 MS and 1 PhD students can be recommended from each department)

※ Exceptions: Students receiving Presidential Science Scholarship, Natural Sciences & Engineering Scholarship, Samsung Scholarship, Kwanjeong Scholarship, Global PhD Fellowship are not eligible for this scholarship.

 

5. How to Apply

1.    It is required detailed plan previously which completes KAIST graduation requirements because outbound students study first 2 years in KAIST and will be studying for following 2 years in GaTech generally.

2.    It might be difficult to be graduating in 4 years (8 semesters) if you’ve not completed ‘Graduation Research’ subject or finished an internship longer than 8 weeks.

Research Performance Evaluation System (RPES) for Doctoral Students

 

1. Purpose of RPES

– The performance evaluation system is to review and assess the candidate’s progress and development, and to provide academic support.

 

2. Process of RPES

 

① Evaluation Period

– The Research Accomplishment Evaluation System for Doctoral Students is conducted twice a year.

② Applicable students

– This time a doctoral student who entered in Fall semester is subject to the research performance evaluations

– 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year doctoral students (Research Performance and GPA evaluation)

–  Nth year (i.e. 5th year or more) doctoral students (Graduation Postponement Evaluation)

– This includes part-time, full-time, special program, and international students.

– For those taking master/doctoral-integrated program, this regulation will be effective upon your enrollment into a PhD program.

– Research Accomplishment Evaluation System for Doctoral Student is supposed to take effect from July, 2007. 

– Master students are excluded from the RPES.

 

③ Documents for submission

– Spring and Fall semester students should submit “Accomplishment Evaluation(#attached below)” and “Supplementary Documents(#attached below)” to the department by the beginning of January and July, respectively, every year.

 

④ Lists of the Research Performance Evaluation and Standards

– Refer to the attached file of “Research Performance Evaluation Lists and Standards with respect to the Doctoral Year”.

 

⑤ Disqualified Students from Research Performance Evaluation

– For 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year doctoral students, “Letter of Evaluation Results” will be sent to those, who are disqualified from the evaluation, and their professors.

– Nth year doctoral students will be given a “Warning Letter of Graduation Postponement”

– “Doctoral students whose GPA is under 2.5/4.3 will be sent a Warning Letter.

 

⑥ Notice of the Research Accomplishment Evaluation Results

– 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year doctoral students are informed of the total score distribution of every corresponding students’ research accomplishment during the semester,  both the score and the rank (%) of their own research accomplishment.

 

⑦ Annual Honor Roll Awards

– Respective students, whose research performance evaluation results meet the following conditions, will receive an “Annual Honor Roll Award”:

• 1st year doctoral students with 100 points or more

• 2nd year doctoral students with 110 points or more 

• 3rd year doctoral students with 120 points or more

• 4th year doctoral students with 130 points or more.
