Research Goals and Vision

The display sciences and engineering research at the KAIST School of Electrical Engineering aims to develop cutting-edge display technologies that enhance visual experiences and device capabilities. This research encompasses various areas, including MicroLED, OLED, flexible displays, driver and readout ICs, and thin-film transistors. The department’s innovative research in MicroLED, OLED, flexible displays, driver and readout ICs, and thin-film transistors is applied across various industries, including consumer electronics, medical devices, and wearable technology.

Key Research Areas

MicroLED, OLED, and Flexible Displays

  • MicroLED Technology : Developing high-efficiency MicroLED displays with superior brightness, color accuracy, and longevity. Research focuses on tackling the fundamental issues in current MicroLEDs and improving the fabrication processes and integration techniques for MicroLEDs.
  • OLED Displays : Advancing OLED display technology to achieve better color reproduction, flexibility, and energy efficiency. This includes research on new materials and structures to enhance OLED performance.
  • Flexible Displays : Creating flexible and foldable display technologies that maintain high resolution and durability. Research includes developing new substrates and encapsulation methods to enable flexible displays.

Driver and Readout IC

  • High-Performance Driver ICs : Designing driver ICs that can efficiently control high-resolution displays, ensuring accurate color and brightness control.
  • Readout ICs for Sensors : Developing readout integrated circuits that can accurately capture data from various display sensors, improving the overall functionality of display systems.
