Haedong Server / Haedong Lounge User Guide

Overview

The Haedong Server is a public server for remote connection.
It can be used via SSH connection.

Main Purpose

• Remote computer utilization assignments and practical classes

Server Specifications

• NVIDIA RTX 4000 Ada (40 units)
• NVIDIA PRO 4000 (50 units)
• NVIDIA GTX 1080 (48 units)

Operating System

• Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Connection Method

On-campus Network

Direct connection is available within the on-campus internal network.

ssh <Student ID>@eelabgX.kaist.ac.kr

Off-campus Network

Use after connecting to KVPN from external networks.

KVPN Connection:
https://kvpn.kaist.ac.kr/dana-na/auth/url_default/welcome.cgi

Then connect via SSH:

ssh <Student ID>@eelabgX.kaist.ac.kr

Usage Rules

You must change your password using the command below upon your first login:

passwd

Prohibited Actions

• Hacking attempts
• Excessive resource usage
• P2P file sharing
• Using weak passwords

If violated, your account may be suspended and the professor in charge may be notified.

Purpose of Use

The Haedong Lounge is a space for computer utilization assignments and practical classes.

※ Please refrain from activities unrelated to assignments (gaming, making noise, etc.).

Operating Policy

• Turn off the PC after use
• No occupying a PC for an extended period
• Be considerate of other users

Class Reservation

When conducting a class in the Haedong Lounge, you must reserve via the email below at least one week before the class:

staff-haedong@googlegroups.com

After reserving, the teaching assistant (TA) must post the class schedule on the entrance door.

Account Creation

If accounts are needed for a class, the teaching assistant (TA) must apply via the Account Creation Application Form.
When using the Haedong Server: After your account is created, the computer lab TA will send an email regarding your server assignment. You can begin using the Haedong Server once you receive this notification.

When uploading the Excel file with the list of enrolled students, please check the following:

• The Excel file must contain a 학번 column
• Student names must be written in a '이름' or '성명' column
• 학번 and 이름/성명 columns must be on the same header row

Password Reset

This is a link for students to directly request a password reset.
TAs, please share the link above with students if you receive a password reset request.

Disk Usage

• Linux: 1GB
• Windows: 1GB

Precautions

• The file system is not shared among Lounge PCs
• Backups are not provided

Please make sure to back up your important files separately.

Account Deletion Policy

Student accounts will be deleted along with all data at the end of the semester.

Installing Programs for Classes

If required programs are not installed:

1. TA requests installation permission via email
2. Direct installation after permission is approved
3. Return permission after installation is complete
