Ph.D. Student Ji-Heon Ryu (Advised by Jong-Won Yu) won the 4th Eui-Bum Academic Award

Ph.D. Student Ji-Heon Ryu (Advised by Jong-Won Yu), a senior researcher at the Agency for Defense Development, won the Eui-Bum Academic Award.

This year’s Eui-Bum Academic Award was its fourth since it was established in 2010. The Eui-Bum Academic Award was established by the will of Yong-Chul Kim, an honorary research fellow, who donated 10 billion won worth of assets to the Agency for Defense Development. The Eui-Bum Academic Award honors young researchers who have shown notable research achievements.

This year’s awardee Ji-Heon Ryu entered the Agency for Defense Development in 2001 and received the award for his contribution to the development of high power electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) technology, which the domestic technology had been considered to be weak. EMP is the next-generation core technology that uses powerful electromagnetic waves to neutralize surrounding electronic equipment.

It is significant in that he has contributed to national security through the innovation of cutting-edge technology.
