Dr. Lee, Seung-Won (advisor: Prof. Yoo, Seung-Hyup) won the UDC Award* (prize : 15,000,000) at the 17th International Meeting on Information Display (IMID) held in Busan from August 8 to 31 with Dr. Moon, Han-Eol and Ph.D. student Yoon, Jung-Hoo. 
Also, Ph.D. student Kim, Sung-Yeon (advisor: Prof. Yoo, Seung-Hyup) won the Young Leaders Conference Best Lecture Award in IMID 2017. 
 
* The UDC Award is given by a Universal Display Corp, company that develops and supplies phosphors for almost all OLED displays. This award is given for innovative research achievements in the field of organic electronics.
UDC Award was established this year, and the research team of Prof. Yoo, Seung-Hyup(KAIST) and the research team of Prof. Lee, Jun-yeop(Sungkyunkwan University) have received the award this year.

KAIST electrical engineering department has submitted the largest number of papers and been awarded most in 23rd Samsung Electronics HumanTech Paper Awards (Award ceremony on February 7, 2017).

36 papers passed the preliminary examination out of 77 submitted abstracts, and 11 papers finally received the awards with 3 Gold Prizes, 3 Silver Prizes, 3 Bronze Prizes, and 2 Encouragement Prizes.

Our department Ph.D. candidate Yoon, Sung-Jun received a Grand Prize in the 6th Lam Research Korea Undergraduate/Graduate Student Paper Awards.

Founded in 2011, the Lam Research Korea Paper Awards was established to promote and appreciate the developments in semiconductor industry and its researches, in which awards and scholarships are conferred to undergraduate and graduate students of innovative ideas and views on a yearly basis.

On the last December 16th, a total of 4 teams received the awards in the Convention Bellasium Center.

M.S. candidate Jung, Hyun-Wook (Advisor Prof. Ro, Yong Man) received the Grand Prize in 2016 Korea Information Processing Society (KIPS) Paper Awards.

The award ceremony was held on December 8th, 2016 followed by an evening banquet of Information Technicians.

In an effort to establish a notable and prestigious award in information processing and communications field, the paper award was established in 2002 by the Korea Information Processing Society (KIPS), and since then the society awarded outstanding papers in an annual basis.

Prof. Tag-Gon Kim became the first honorary winner of the 2016 Korea Society for Simulation Academic Awards.

 

The award is established to promote and to honor the efforts to bring academic advances in simulations.

Ph.D. candidate Sung-soo Ahn is accepted to world’s premier machine learning conference NIPS with full oral presentation, the first in Korea for 30 years of NIPS history (acceptance rate = 1.8%, 46 accepted papers out of over-2,500 submissions).

Ahn is also accepted to NIPS in 2015 with spotlight presentation (short oral presentation with acceptance rate = 4.5%). Looking over the past 5 years, he is the only person presenting in NIPS twice as the first author.

Over 8,000 people already registered in NIPS to be held in Barcelona, Spain in December. 568 papers are accepted including poster presentations, in which 2 are from KAIST, 1 from SNU, 1 from POSTECH, and 1 from DGIST.

Prof. Song Chong received the 2016 Haedong Academic Award from the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS).

As an award co-sponsored by the Haedong Science and Culture Foundation and KICS to appreciate and honor the efforts to bring academic and technological advances in communication systems, the award is given to researchers with outstanding achievements in the past 10 years.

 

Prof. Chong received the IEEE William R. Bennett Prize twice, the most prestigious academic award in communication networks, for the study in human mobility modeling and mobile data off-loadings.  

His representative 5 papers are cited more than 2,500 times, representing his impact and influence on the matters drawing international interests.

 

The award ceremony is to be held in Seoul Palace Hotel on December 2, 2016.
