O Abstract:

Hybrid quantum systems provide effective routes to interfacing various quantum states of different natures (e.g. microwave and optical photons, phonons, qubits, and magnons) for sensing, transduction, and information processing in the quantum regimes. My talk will discuss various interesting physical phenomena arising from the coherent interactions of microwave fields and nanomechanical phonons in superconducting nanoelectromechanical devices we developed at KRISS.

We employ niobium as a base superconducting material due to its superior superconducting properties compared to those of aluminum. Our device demonstrates fundamental optomechanical effects including electromechanical cooling and amplification, and electromechanically induced reflection at 4.2K and in strong magnetic fields up to 0.8 T. Moreover, this device can be driven beyond the linear regime and presents a nonlinear effect called electromechanical frequency comb.

I will discuss the dynamics behind the generation of the frequency comb and their potential applications in nanomechanical sensing. The last part of my talk will introduce our on-going research on hybrid quantum systems such as optoelectromechancial quantum transducers to realize light-based quantum entanglement of two remote superconducting qubits.
